Day 1

Arrival in Paro, Transfer to Thimphu Arrive in Paro and enjoy a scenic drive to the capital, Thimphu. Spend the night in Thimphu.

Thimphu is the capital and largest city of Bhutan, located in the western central part of the country. It is situated in the Himalayan Mountains on the Raidak (also called Thimphu, or Wong) River at about 7,000 feet (2,000 metres) above sea level. It is the fifth-highest capital in the world by altitude.

Day 2

Explore Thimphu, soak in the spectacular architecture of the magnificent forts and religious edifices at Thimphu. Stay overnight in Thimphu.

Buddha Dordenma: A 51 metres tall gold-plated statue of Buddha Dordenma, which is entirely made up of steel.

Tashichho Dzong: A fortress located about 2 km away from the city of Thimphu.

Memorial Chorten: One of the tallest monuments in Thimphu

Royal Botanical Garden: A beautiful garden located in Serbithang, Thimphu.

Day 3

Drive to Punakha Drive to Punakha, stopping at Dochu La Pass. Stay overnight in Punakha.

Dochu La Pass, also known as Dochu Pass, is a mountain pass in the snow-covered Himalayas within Bhutan on the road from Thimphu to Punakha. It is located at an elevation of 3,100 metres (10,200 ft) and is amidst the Eastern Himalayan snow-covered mountains.

Day 4

Explore Punakha and the surrounding areas. Stay another night in Punakha.

Punakha is the administrative centre of Punakha dzongkhag, one of the 20 districts of Bhutan. It was the capital of Bhutan and the seat of government until 1955, when the capital was moved to Thimphu. It is about 72 km away from Thimphu, and it takes about 3 hours by car from the capital.

Day 5

Return to Paro Return to Paro. Spend the day exploring Paro.

The main street of Paro, built in 1985, is lined with colourfully painted wooden shopfronts and restaurants. However, as the town grows, multi-storey concrete buildings are starting to appear.

Tiger’s Nest Visit the iconic Tiger’s Nest.

One of the most famous sites near Paro is the Paro Taktsang, also known as the Tiger’s Nest Monastery. This Buddhist monastery is perched on a cliff about 900 meters above the Paro Valley. According to local legends, Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) flew to this location from Tibet on the back of a tigress
